Cobalt free batteries will be transformed into energy storage solutions

The IBM research team has also discovered a new battery chemical composition that can be extracted from seawater without using heavy metals or other substances related to heavy metal sources. This technology is less invasive than current material extraction methods.

　　Now let's talk about dendrites, which are furry nanostructures formed over a long period of time in lithium-ion batteries. The formation of dendrites reduces the efficiency of the battery, so researchers have come up with various methods to eliminate dendrites. In the batteries developed by IBM, the combination of cobalt and nickel free cathodes and electrolytes suppresses dendritic growth. In addition to solving efficiency issues, this new type of battery can also reduce its flammability.
